430.102(B) NEC vs Elevator Code

Author Post
Robert L Krieger Jr Does 430.102(B) apply to elevators or does article 620 apply?
430.102(B) seems to say that a disconnect (that removes all power from the motor) is required within sight of the motor.
in the case of MRL's a stop switch is required with in sight of the motor.
Some elevators have 1/2 of the wiring connected at all times which makes LOTO so important.
I just finished a great 10 hour class and it was not until after the class that I saw the note I wrote myself to ask.that question.
Thank you in advance for your time and consideration.
Daniel L Hunter Hi Robert. I would refer to NFPA70-620.51(c)1-2. This address the requirement for having line of sight to the disconnecting means. C-1, addresses the disconnecting means for elevators that have the motor controller located in the hoistway.
