Scavenger pumps

Author Post
Kirk C Pohl Are scavenger pumps allowed in your jurisdiction? Does it relate to year of install or any hydraulic elevator? Also, if scavenger pumps back to 5 gallon bucket in machine room(for measuring and recording) is this allowed?
Chris E Strawn Not a fan of them but, the use of scavenger pumps is not prohibited by A17.1. if the fluid is removed (not reused) and/or replaced, logging the replacement or addition of fluid, is required - when all piping/cylinder cannot be visibly inspected. The record is used as a tool to assist the intended in determining the validity of the hydraulic system (help determine if there's a leak) After all, for in-ground cylinders, determining the lose of fluid is critical and thus the log. No log is required where you can see all the oil line and the cylinder is above ground (A17.1-8.6.5.7) regardless of what's in pit can or what you do with it - because you would see a leak if/when it happens (therefore no use/consumption). There are a lot of opinions out there and there is an interpretation request being processed now, so standby.
